ARESTIN® is a locally applied antibiotic (LAA) used to help treat periodontal disease (a disease of your gums). Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria growing beneath the gum line. ARESTIN® works by keeping the number of bacteria from growing. Lowering the amount of bacteria helps to reduce inflammation and swelling in your mouth, and the amount of bleeding around the teeth. ARESTIN® is placed in deep gum pockets next to your teeth in order to reduce the depth of the pockets.
1. Avoid touching the area treated. 2. Wait 12 hours after treatment before brushing. 3. Do not use floss, toothpicks, Waterpik, or any other devices to clean between the teeth for 10 days in the treated area. 4. Avoid eating hard, crunchy, or sticky foods for one week. 5. Always follow up with dental appointments to help maintain healthy gums and teeth.
